A University of Illinois female freshman from the Chicago area was sexually abused in a dormitory shower by a male/black offender on the Champaign campus, according to the University of Illinois Police Department.
The attack occurred about 10:50 a.m. Monday, November 8, 2010 in a fourth-floor bathroom at Forbes Hall, 101 E. Gregory Dr. in Champaign, one of a number of residence halls in the southwest area of the campus.
The woman reported to police that a man entered the shower, then grabbed and “sexually abused” her, according to a university release. The two struggled, the woman screamed and hit the victim in the head during the struggle. The offender then fled the area using the east stairwell of Forbes Hall.
The offender was described as a black/male more than 40 years old, about 5′, 10″, between170 and 180 LBS described as having a slim-to-medium build and salt-and-pepper hair. He was wearing a gray “non-puffy” jacket and “weathered” dark boot-type shoes.
The woman, who Acree said was from the Chicago area, described the attacker as “possibly being homeless.”
Acree said his department has been questioning witnesses but no arrest has been made.
University of Illinois Police Department with the assistance of the Champaign Police, Urbana Police and Champaign County Sheriff’s Office immediately canvassed the campus area. The University of Illinois Police Department is aggressively investigating this case to identify and apprehend the offender and seeking the communities assistance.
