Arlington Heights police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 6:10 AM Friday, May 11, 2018 to report a smoke in the building at 1800 East Northwest Highway.
Firefighters forced entry into the building after they saw smoke coming from the west side of the building. Interior firefighters discovered a fire in a closet and extinguished the fire in less than 10 minutes.
Arlington Heights Fire Department upgraded the call to a working fire response by 6:23 AM.
The building was apparently unoccupied at the time of the fire, but representatives of the business were on scene immediately. There were no apparent injuries to firefighters or civilians.
Winds were from the northeast at about 17 MPH so smoke was blowing southwest toward the commercial properties south of Northwest Highway.
Firefighters from Mt. Prospect and Prospect Heights assisted Arlington Heights firefighters at the scene. Palatine firefighters provided station coverage at an Arlington Heights fire station.
One lane of westbound Northwest Highway was closed during the initial firefighting operations and Gibbons Avenue was closed in both directions at 7:15 AM.
