Blagojevich Guilty Verdict on Only One Count: Lying to the FBI, Maximum Penalty 5 Years

Jurors convicted former Governor Rod Blagojevich of lying to the FBI, which is the only count against him of 24 counts considered. The federal jury was deadlocked on the other 23 counts against Blagojevich, and was also deadlocked on all four counts against his brother Robert Blagojevich.

The verdict was announced shortly before 4:30 p.m. Tuesday after 14 days of deliberation.

Blagojevich, 53, had pleaded not guilty to racketeering, mail fraud, attempted extortion and bribery charges, and charges that he tried to sell or trade the Senate seat appointment for a Cabinet post, private job or campaign cash, and tried to leverage the power of his office for personal gain.
