Chicago White Sox Pitcher Danny Farquhar in Critical Condition After Ruptured Brain Aneurysm

Chicago White Sox pitcher Danny Farquhar, who lost consciousness in the dugout during Friday night’s game against the Houston Astros, suffered a ruptured aneurysm and brain hemorrhage. Farquhar was transported to the Rush University Medical Center after passing out in the dugout at Guaranteed Rate Field on Friday night April 20, 2018.

The White Sox said in a statement Saturday that Farquhar is stable but in critical condition in the Neurosurgical Intensive Care Unit at Rush University Medical Center. Farquhar is being cared for by Dr. Demetrius Lopez and the Rush neurosurgical team.

Farquhar threw 15 pitches in the sixth inning during the White Sox game with the Astros. In the bottom of the 6th inning while the White Sox were at bat, he lost consciousness. Sox medical staff and EMTs rushed to the dugout to administer emergency medical treatment, and transfer him into the team clubhouse.

Farquhar regained consciousness and was transported to Rush University Medical Center for evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment.

Danny Farquhar, 31, is in his seventh major-league season and his second season with the Sox after signing on as a free agent midway through 2017.

The White Sox called up reliever Gregory Infante while placing Farquhar on the 10-day disabled list.
