An Alberta Clipper snowstorm in the Chicago area Tuesday night caused numerous accidents in Arlington Heights, Palatine and Wheeling and dropped about 7 inches of snow in Arlington Heights by Wednesday morning. A six-car accident occurred on Dundee Road near Route 14 Northwest Highway. Another multi-car accident occurred on Roselle Road in Palatine. There were many spinouts on Illinois Route 53.

The Alberta Clipper showed up in North and South Dakota and quickly moved down through Minnesota and Iowa and proceeded into Illinois. An Alberta clipper, also known as a Canadian Clipper, is a fast moving low pressure area which generally affects the central provinces of Canada and parts of the Upper Midwest and Great Lakes regions of the United States. Most clippers occur between December and February. Alberta Clippers take their name from Alberta, Canada, the province from which they appear to descend, and from fast clipper ships of the 19th century.
