Firefighters work on spot fires and salvage covers after a heavy fire destroyed an attached garage and the second floor of house on Fabish Court in Buffalo Grove.
Buffalo Grove firefighter/paramedics responded about 1:05 p.m. Friday to a house fire on Fabish Court about 500 feet east of their Fire Station 26. As soon as firefighters pulled out of their station, they saw heavy black smoke rising just down the way — south of Deerfield Parkway. Firefighters immediately called an extra alarm for mutual aid fire equipment. Firefighters arrived and found the attached garage of the house fully-involved with fire. Heavy winds were from the south and the fire was already starting to run along the second floor and attic and front porch.
Firefighters setup a Quint ladder and doused the garage from overhead. Buffalo Grove police officers alerted residents of homes, especially to the north of the fire, that a serious fire was in the neighborhood. Police quickly asked neighbors if they knew if there were any occupants in the house, and told them to be ready in case they had to evacuate their homes if the fire spread.
No injuries were reported.
Firefighters very effectively stopped a heavily-involved house fire in high wind conditions. Firefighters were hitting spot fires by 1:30 p.m. as the major part of the fire was stopped. Unfortunately the house was heavily damaged before firefighters even arrived.
Fire Departments from Arlington Heights, Barrington Countryside, Lincolnshire-Riverwoods, Long Grove, Palatine, Wauconda, and Wheeling assisted Buffalo Grove Fire Department.
