Arlington Heights Police Officer Attacked
Arlington Heights police responded to a disorderly conduct call about 10:30 a.m. Friday for a suspicious female standing near the playground of St. James School near the first house south of the playground. A subject described as a female/black with a yellow jacket and red pants was standing watching the playground in front of a house in the 700 to 800 block of North Pine Avenue.
Police searched the area and then a female police officer saw the female, Aisha Howard Knight, 33, walking west on Euclid Avenue. The police officer went to speak with Knight at Evergreen Avenue, south of Euclid Avenue to a safer position off of busy Euclid Avenue. When the officer asked for identification, Knight removed her own yellow jacket, pulled out an 18-inch metal pipe and struck the officer near the top, front of her head. The officer called for backup after a short struggle and announced that the subject was in custody. Several other officers and a seargent responded immediately.
Aisha Knight was transported to Arlington Heights Police Department Headquarters just before 10:50 a.m. Friday. The police officer was transported to Northwest Community Hospital with a minor head injury, treated and released. Her police squad car stayed behind at the scene Friday morning until another officer arrived to pick it up on Evergreen Avenue, just South of Euclid Avenue.
Aisha Howard Knight, 33, was charged with felony aggravated battery in Rolling Meadows bond court Saturday morning and held on $50,000 bond. Knight is scheduled to appear in court May 13.
