A WINTER STORM WARNING has been issued at 3:53 AM for late Monday through early Wednesday with up to 12 inches of snow expected to accumulate over the area, according to the National Weather Service.

The warning takes effect at 9 p.m. Monday and will continue until 4 a.m. Wednesday. The heaviest snowfall is expected Tuesday afternoon and early evening. Blowing and drifting snow with near blizzard conditions in open areas can be expected Tuesday night. Both road traffic and air traffic are expected to encounter severe difficulties with delays and cancellations likely.

How much snow for Chicago and Chicagoland?
Snow depth of 6-12 inches is forecast with the heaviest snowfall generally near Lake Michigan. Some local spots throughout Chicagoland may experience heavier accumulations.
