UPDATE: Lockdown released and people are being allowed to leave after announcement just before 1:00 p.m. Access is restricted, and a police investigation is ongoing.
Police activity at Northwestern University Rubloff Building, 750 North Lake Shore Drive on the Chicago campus of Northwestern University. The Rubloff Building is locked down, although there is no word on injuries or threats.
Police received a report about 10 a.m. Wednesday, January 27, 2010 of a man with a gun in his waistband on the eleventh floor in the elevator of the Rubloff Building on the Chicago campus.
The offender is described as a white/male in his 20’s, about 5′ 9″ tall with blondish-brown hair, wearing a button-down shirt, blue jeans and a black jacket.
Northwestern University Police Department and Chicago Police Department are on the scene and currently searching the building. All people in the building are advised to lock their doors and remain in their offices. An Operations of Emergency Management vehicle is also on the scene.
The Rubloff Building is a 13-story building with a mostly black glass facade that was built in 1984. The long name is the Arthur Rubloff Building or the Northwestern University School of Law Arthur Rubloff Building. The building has side addresses in the 300 block of East Chicago Avenue — the Northwest University School of Law address is 375 East Chicago Avenue. The address is a block east and north of Northwestern University Medical School and Northwest Memorial Hospital.
