Arlington Heights Vail Avenue Metra Train Victim Identified

The pedestrian reported killed on Thursday night has been identified as Joseph Makurat, 47. He was hit while crossing with his bicycle. His last known address was an Arlington Heights homeless agency. He also may have formerly lived in the 1600 block of North Arlington Heights Road.

A pedestrian was struck and killed while crossing the Northwest Line tracks near Vail Avenue in Arlington Heights about 6:00 p.m. Thursday [MAP/SAT]. The Metra 639 train was westbound and was not scheduled to stop at the Arlington Heights downtown station. The last scheduled stop was in Des Plaines at 5:52 p.m. and the next scheduled stop was in Barrington at 6:17 p.m.


‘The 639 (City of Zion 152)’ was held at the accident scene during
recovery and investigation at the scene.


Arlington Heights Police cars blocked Vail Avenue at Wing Street in Downtown Arlington Heights for a train versus pedestrian accident.

Traffic was seriously jammed in downtown Arlington Heights as the Vail
Avenue crossing was blocked by the train and the intersection of Dunton
Avenue and Campbell Street was also blocked for construction work.
