The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office responded at 6:00 p.m. Saturday, March 3, 3018 to the area of Hancock Drive and East Wonder Lake Drive for an attempted child abduction.
The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office reported in a news release Monday, March 5, 2018 that the girl told police she was walking east on Hancock Drive, when a dark-colored pickup truck pulled up beside her. The driver of the pickup truck asked the 13-year-old girl if she had a lighter, and held up a pack of cigarettes.
When the girl continued to walk, the man got out of his pickup truck and grabbed her. She was able to escape, and the offender then drove away. He was last seen driving his pickup truck eastbound on Hancock Drive.
The man was only described by police as about 30-years-old, with facial hair and driving a dark colored pickup truck.
Police in the area are continuing to search for the suspect and are continuing to investigate the case. The location of the incident is about two blocks east of the shoreline of Wonder Lake in a well-traveled and populated business area of Wonder Lake.
