Fox Lake police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 6:15 pm. Tuesday, February 27, 2018 to a report of a motorcyclist that crashed into a guardrail near Rand Road and Big Hollow Road.
The crash occurred on a curve approaching Big Hollow Road.
According to Fox Lake Police Department, Spurgeon D. Dyke, a 62-year-old man from Volo, was driving a 2013 Harley-Davidson motorcycle southbound along a frontage road on the west side of Route 12. Dyke’s motorcycle crossed the roadway and struck a guardrail.
Spurgeon D. Dyke died from multiple traumatic injuries suffered in the single-vehicle crash, according to the Lake County coroner’s office.
The Lake County Major Crash Assist Team (MCAT) was called in to assist with the crash investigation, which is ongoing. Toxicology results are pending.
During the crash investigation, Big Hollow west of Route 12 and the frontage road were both closed to traffic for three hours, according to Fox Lake Police Department.
