Arlington Heights police received a report about 12:25 p.m. Sunday that a man was waiting at a retail location near Rand Road and Palatine Road with a deposit bag full of cash and checks that he had found at a store in Arlington Heights.
The deposit bag was apparently destined for the bank account of a northwest suburban church. Inside the bag? Tens of thousands in checks and thousands of dollars in cash. The man who found the money wanted to turn the deposit bag and contents over to the police, so that they could contact the owner.
The general location of the finding is an area where stolen wallets or purses are known to be lifted of credit cards and cash for quick expensive purchases in stores within blocks of the area.
