SNOW TOTALS MAY BE SHY OF FORECAST; WINTER STORM WARNING UNTIL NOON TODAY
A total of 4.5 inches of snow fell in Arlington Heights from about 5:30 PM Thursday February 8, 2018 until 6:00 AM Friday February 9, 2018. The recent snow period, which is ongoing, lasted about 12:30 (hours:minutes). The current snow cover is 11.0 inches (including the past week’s accumulation with settling).
The snow quality was very fluffy, dry and light — not good packing snow, but easy for shoveling. Snow accumulated significantly on grassy and paved areas.
An unexpected break in persistent moderate snowfall occurred overnight, so snowfall accumulation totals may be lower than forecast. Regarding last night’s forecast, at least 7″ of new snow was forecast for the period from 6 PM to 6 AM for Arlington Heights.
Another 3″ of snow is forecast from 6 AM to 10 AM Friday. Then two more rounds of light snow are forecast for Saturday and Sunday.
Snow, heavy at times, will gradually shift east through the morning. Before it departs, several inches more of accum and even rates of 1+" an hour in Chicago before 10 am. If traveling during the morning commute time, allow a significant amount of extra time. #ilwx #inwx pic.twitter.com/qqe5py1wyy
