Police, firefighters and paramedics from Gurnee responded about 2:20 p.m. Friday, March 28, 2025 to a report of a vehicle crash in the area of Grand Avenue and 1st Street in Gurnee. Police officers on the scene discovered two vehicles that had been involved in the crash.
The driver of a Subaru, a 74-year-old Waukegan woman, was found with life-threatening injuries, and was treated and transported to Level 1 Trauma Center Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville. The driver was pronounced deceased Saturday, March 29, 2025, after more than 24 hours treatment in the intensive care unit. She was identified as 74-year-old Jane Kennedy of Waukegan, Illinois. The preliminary coroner’s investigation indicated that Ms. Kennedy died from complications of blunt force injuries as a result of the crash.
Preliminary investigation indicates that the driver of a BMW 340i was traveling westbound on Route 132 approaching 1st Street. Jane Kennedy, while driving the Subaru Forester, was traveling eastbound on Grand Avenue, and attempted to turn left onto 1st Street, and turned directly in front of the BMW when the crash occurred.
The crash investigation is ongoing with the Gurnee Police Department.
Route 132 (Grand Avenue) is a four-lane east-west state route (two lanes in each direction) with narrow shoulders and short right turn lanes. There is a dedicated left turn lane in each direction to 1st Street. The Speed Limit on Route 132 is 40 MPH, according to Google Maps Street View images captured September 2024.
