Wheeling police officers responded about 10:59 p.m. Monday, March 24, 2025 to a report of a shooting involving a 19-year-old male victim in the block of 800 McHenry Road in Wheeling. The victim was sitting inside his car, parked on McHenry Road in the Colonial Townhomes subdivision, waiting for a friend to leave a nearby apartment when the shooting occurred.
The victim was transported to Glenbrook Hospital by Wheeling Fire Department paramedics with injuries that are initially not considered life-threatening.
Investigators spoke with witnesses who reported seeing several individuals exit a vehicle that had
pulled up next to the victim’s car. One of the individuals then fired several shots into the victim’s
vehicle before fleeing the scene.
Initially there appeared to be no clear motive for the shooting, as the victim was simply waiting to
pick up a friend, according to the Wheeling Police Department.
Investigators are continuing to canvass the area in search of further evidence and leads. Anyone with
information is encouraged to contact the Wheeling Police Investigations Division. The Wheeling Police Department non-emergency number is 847-459-2632.
