Labor Protest at Nestlé USA’s Nation Pizza on Algonquin Rd, Schaumburg

A large labor-related protest with police presence was underway Friday morning along Algonquin Road in Schaumburg, where workers at Nation Pizza are upset with layoffs and hiring practices after Nestlé USA acquired Nation Pizza.

Veteran Latino workers of Nation Pizza and Foods Company, now owned by Nestlé protested about 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 21, 2025 protested at the Nation Pizza location, 601 East Algonquin Road in Schaumburg. A group of protesters initially met near Drink Nighclub at the southeast corner of Algonquin Road and Hammond Drive in Schaumburg, then marched toward Nation Pizza, west of Drink Nightclub.

A morning protest, a press conference and a picket were scheduled at the pizza factory.

The protesters, facing imminent loss of their jobs and the possibility of layoffs of more than 600 workers, claim that the makers of DiGiorno Pizza, which makes DiGiorno pizzas and other DiGiornos frozen products at the Nation Pizza location have a covert plan to lay off the vast majority of these workers, and to re-verify workers who had never been subjected through the voluntary and defective E-Verify system — a work authorization system designed for new federal government hires. Workers, none of whom are new employees, but mothers and fathers with families who have worked at Nation Pizza, will fight for their jobs, but above all, will fight for dignity and respect at Nestlé. The protesters say that Nestlé notoriously prioritizes profit over people.

Workers, along with the Dupage House Worker Center, 501c3 and other community allies, as members of the NDLON (National Day Laborer Organizing Network) and Raise the Floor (a regional organization) scheduled a press conference with the protest.

There is a large police presence at the scene involving specialized units from NIPAS (Northern Illinois Police Alert System), assigned to observe the crowd and keep peace at the scene.
