DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin announced Monday, March 24, 2025 that Judge Jeffrey MacKay has granted the State’s motion to deny pre-trial release for a Chicago resident accused of leading police on a high-speed chase. Kevin Culps, age 28, of the 7800 block of Saginaw Avenue in Chicago, appeared in First Appearance Court this past weekend charged with one count of Aggravated Fleeing and Eluding (Class 4 Felony) and multiple Misdemeanor and Petty traffic offenses including Driving While License Revoked and Obstructing Identification.
Culps allegedly fled from officers on Friday, March 21, 2025, at approximately 2:18 a.m., after being pulled over for a suspended registration in Downers Grove. Culps ultimately made his way to I-88 where officers with the Oak Brook Police Department began pursuing him. Whille fleeing on I-88, Culps allegedly reached speeds of approximately 113 mph near I-88 and Meyers Road. Culps entered eastbound I-290 where officers with the Berkeley Police Department successfully spike stripped his vehicle. Culps exited the vehicle and, in his attempt to flee, jumped down a twenty-foot wall into trees. He was taken into custody following a brief foot pursuit by officers with the Berkeley Police Department. When processing the scene, officers recovered a firearm along Culps’ path of flight. The firearm has been sent to the DuPage County Crime Lab for DNA analysis.
“It is alleged that in an utter display of contempt for the rule of law and complete disregard for public safety, Mr. Culps led police officers from multiple agencies on a 113-mph high-speed chase. The successful apprehension of the defendant in this case sends a loud and clear message that law enforcement throughout the region will work together to ensure safe travel for motorists on all our roadways. I thank the Downers Grove, Oak Brook and Berkeley Police Departments for their cooperative efforts in this case. I also thank Assistant State’s Attorneys Jennifer Nielsen and Anna Derkacz for their work in securing charges against Mr. Culps.”

Kevin Culps’ next court appearance is scheduled for April 14, 2025, in front of Judge Daniel Guerin.
