Police, firefighters and paramedics from Hoffman Estates responded about 12:37 a.m. Sunday, March 2, 2025 to a report of of two people not conscious and not breathing in a locked vehicle in the block of 200 East Berkley in Hoffman Estates.
Paramedics and firefighters forced open doors on the vehicle, and began to assess the two patients. Paramedics on arrival reported two people in cardiac arrest. There were two teens in a locked car — a 16 year-old girl and a 17 year-old boy.
A second ambulance was assigned at 12:40 a.m., and extra EMS personnel in a rescue squad were assigned at 12:44 a.m.
Both patients were transported to Ascension St. Alexius Medical Center in Hoffman Estates. According to the Cook County Medical Examiners Office, a 17 year-old male, Yeferson A. Flores Ramos of Hoffman Estates, was pronounced dead at 1:22 a.m. and a 16 year-old female, Litzy Flores of Carpentersville, was pronounced dead at 1:29 a.m.
The manner of death and the primary cause of death were not initially released, but the incident is suspected to be related to carbon monoxide poisoning. Autopsies are scheduled today, Sunday, March 2, 2025.
