PRETRIAL RELEASE DENIED FOR MONTGOMERY MAN CHARGED WITH SEXUALLY ASSAULTING MULTIPLE MINORS

Kane County State’s Attorney Jamie L. Mosser and Montgomery Chief of Police Phil Smith announce today that Judge Salvatore LoPiccolo has granted the State’s motion to deny pretrial release for a male resident of Montgomery accused of sexually assaulting multiple minors over a 15-year period. Michael G. Farris appeared at First Appearance Court Thursday morning, February 27, 2025 charged with the following offenses:
– Criminal Sexual Assault, Class 1 Felony (23 counts)
– Aggravated Criminal Sexual Abuse, Class 2 Felony (67 counts)
The Montgomery Police Department took Farris into custody on Wednesday, February 26, 2025 at his Montgomery home without incident following a thorough investigation. Today, Assistant State’s Attorney Lori Schmidt, Executive Director of the Kane County Child Advocacy Center, presented the following facts in court.
Michael G. Farris, between January 20, 2008 and July 30, 2022, committed acts of sexual penetration and contact with five victims between the ages of 13 and 17, as alleged in the charging documents. After being arrested on Wednesday, Farris admitted to having sexually assaulted and abused four of those victims. He also admitted to having had contact with an additional five minors, bringing the total number of known victims to 10. Farris was involved with youth organizations, such as being a Boy Scout leader and involved in a train club. Charges related to the newly discovered victims have not yet been filed, and the investigation is still ongoing.

The next court date for Michael G. Farris is set for 9:00 a.m. on Friday, March 7, 2025 in courtroom 319 of the Kane County Judicial Center. According to Illinois law, Farris is being detained in the Kane County Jail while his case is pending.
The charges against Farris are not proof of guilt. Farris is presumed innocent and is entitled to a fair trial in which it is the state’s burden to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.

Montgomery, located just south of Aurora, Illinois, is located in southern Kane County and northern Kendall County.
