Woman Dies, Two Critical in 2-Vehicle Rollover Crash on Route 38 Near Illinois Youth Center, St. Charles

Police, firefighters and paramedics from St. Charles Police responded about 9:25 a.m. Friday, February 21, 2025 to a report of a rollover crash in injuries in the block of 4400 Lincoln Highway (Route 38) in western St. Charles.

A woman died of injuries suffered in the crash, and four individuals, including and infant, were injured in a crash located near the Illinois Youth Center Visitor Center near the border of Elburn and St. Charles.




Upon arrival, officers located two vehicles that had been involved in a serious crash. A 2015 black GMC with heavy front-end damage was in the roadway, and a 2024 white Kia was discovered overturned on the north side of the road of Route 38. A 50-year-old female from DeKalb had been ejected from the overturned Kia, and was suffering life-threatening injuries on the scene. Her 49-year-old male passenger was trapped in the rolled over Kia.

Elburn & Countryside Fire Protection District was assigned to the scene about 9:51 a.m.

The male passenger was extricated at about 9:54 a.m.

The 50-year-old female, who was ejected from the Kia, was later pronounced deceased.

The 49-year-old male passenger, who had been entrapped, was listed in critical condition.

The occupants of the GMC were transported to Northwestern Medicine Delnor for treatment of their injuries. A 30-year-old female from Maple Park is currently in critical condition, while her 30-year-old male passenger and infant child are reported to be ‘ok’, according to the St. Charles Police Department.




The Kane County Accident Reconstruction Team is assisting with the investigation.

Lincoln Highway (Rt. 38) was closed for an on-scene investigation between Peck Road and Brundige Road until about 1:11 p.m.

Lincoln Highway (Route 38) is a two-lane highway (one lane each direction) with a narrow asphalt shoulder. The Speed Limit on Lincoln Highway is 55 MPH, according to Google Maps Street View images captured September 2022.
