
Elgin police officers responded about 1:16 p.m. Sunday January 26, 2025, to a report of a shooting at or near McDonald’s, 401 Summit Street in Elgin. Police officers located an adult male who had sustained a serious injury, and he was transported by Elgin Fire Department paramedics to an area hospital for treatment.
Later on Sunday, after further investigation, 20-year-old David Celestine, of the 1000 block of Harbor Drive in Wheeling, was taken into custody.
On January 28, 2025, the Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office charged Mr. Celestine with the following:
– Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm (Class X Felony)
– Possession Firearm while FOID Card Invalid or Not Eligible (Class 3 Felony)

On Wednesday, January 29, 2025, David Celestine was transported to the Kane County Jail for a pre-trial detention hearing, where the Judge ordered him to be detained pending a future court date.
The next court date for David I. Celestine is February 13, 2025 at 1:02 p.m. in Kane County Judicial Center Courtroom 305.

Police, firefighters, and paramedics from Elgin responded about 1:16 p.m. Sunday, January 26, 2025 to a a report of a shooting officers responded to the McDonald’s at 401 Summit Street in Elgin. Elgin police officers located an adult male who sustained a serious injury, according to the Elgin Police Department. The male shooting victim was transported by Elgin Fire Department paramedics to an area hospital for treatment.
Preliminary information suggested the victim and offender were engaged in a “conversation” prior to the shooting, according to police.
Initially, the Elgin Police Department has not report that a suspect is in custody. Detectives are actively investigating this incident; updates will be provided when they become available.
