St. Charles police officers responded about 12:21 a.m. Saturday, February 15, 2025 to a report of a person armed with a handgun in a bar in the block of 0-99 North 3rd Street in St. Charles.

Police officers, who were already on foot in the area conducting regular bar checks, immediately responded and stopped the person as he was exiting the business. The person, later identified as Dalton T. Geni, 23, of the block of 5N700 Tanager Court in Campton Township, was found to have a loaded handgun in his waistband.

An employee of the business had called 9-1-1 after witnessing Geni pulling the gun from his waistband, turning on a weapon mounted flashlight, and pointing the gun at passing vehicles on north 3rd Street. Geni allegedly stood up from a table, still holding the handgun, and walked behind the bar where the employee was still on the phone connected with the 9-1-1 center. Geni then exited the business.

Officers had located and detained Geni less than 2 minutes after the time of dispatch. Geni was found to have a valid Illinois FOID card and Concealed Carry License (CCL); however, it is unlawful to carry a firearm in any place which is licensed to sell alcohol. It is also unlawful to carry or possess a firearm while engaged in the commission or attempted commission of a misdemeanor involving the use or threat of violence against another person or another person’s property.

Geni was arrested and transported to the St. Charles Police Department. Officers reviewed this case with the Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office and the following charges were then approved against Geni:

Aggravated Unlawful Possession of a Weapon (2 Counts) – Class 4 Felony

Aggravated Assault – Class A Misdemeanor

Aggravated Assault Use of a Deadly Weapon – Class A Misdemeanor

Geni was assigned a court date of March 20, 2025, at 9:00 a.m., and not detained pre-trial.

The charges against Geni are not proof of guilt. He is presumed innocent and is entitled to a fair trial in which it is the state’s burden to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
