The Batavia Police Department investigated a traffic crash that occurred on February 4th, 2025, at approximately 5:30 PM. The traffic crash involved a 60-year-old, female, pedestrian being struck by a semi-truck pulling a trailer, at the intersection of North Kirk Road and East Wilson Street.
After reviewing the evidence and witness statements, the investigation has concluded, according to the Batavia Police Department. Investigators determined that the pedestrian was legally crossing the roadway in a crosswalk, with the white, pedestrian crossing light illuminated. The driver of the semi-truck was making a right turn with a green light, onto North Kirk Road from East Wilson Street when the crash occurred.
The driver of the semi-truck, 37-year-old, male, Yoan Castillo, of Carpentersville, IL, was issued the following traffic citations:
• Failure to yield pedestrian in crosswalk: 625 ILCS 5.0/11-1002, and
• No valid registration: 625 ILCS 5.0/3-401
The charges against Castillo are not proof of guilt. Castillo is presumed innocent and is entitled to a fair trial in which it is the state’s burden to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.

The Batavia Police Department is investigating a traffic crash that involved a semi-trailer truck striking a pedestrian with serious injuries Tuesday evening at Kirk Road and Wilson Street in Batavia.
Police, firefighters and paramedics from Batavia responded about 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, February 4th, 2025 to a report of a crash involving a pedestrian struck by a semi-trailer truck at the intersection of Kirk Road and East Wilson Street in Batavia. Rescuers on arrival discovered that a semi-truck pulling a trailer struck a pedestrian, who was conscious. The pedestrian was transported by Batavia Fire Department paramedics to a local hospital for treatment. The most recent update was that the patient was described in stable condition, according to the Batavia Police Department.
Images captured at the scene showed the truck in a right turn from westbound Wilson Street to northbound Kirk Road. There is a marked crosswalk across Kirk Road north of Wilson Street. There is no marked crosswalk across Wilson Street east of Kirk Road.
Due to the seriousness of the pedestrian’s injuries, the Kane County Accident Reconstruction Team was requested and responded to the scene. The driver of the semi-truck is cooperating with the investigation. No citations have been issued at this time, pending further investigation.
Parts of the intersection were shut down to traffic between 5:30 PM – 8:40 PM because of the investigation.
Following the on-scene investigation, there is an ongoing investigation.
