Police, firefighters, and paramedics from Aurora responded about 8:46 a.m. Tuesday, February 18, 2025 to a report of a vehicle-versus-pedestrian crash at the intersection of North Illinois Route 59 and Fox Valley Entrance 1. The crash involved the driver of a black 2018 Infiniti Q50 and a 54-year-old male pedestrian that was struck by the vehicle.
Upon arrival, Aurora police officers found the man in the middle through lane of Illinois Route 59, suffering from serious injuries. The driver of the Infiniti had stopped at the scene. Aurora Fire Department firefighters and paramedics transported the man to Rush Copley Medical Center, where he was pronounced deceased at 9:59 a.m.
The Aurora Police Department’s Traffic Division responded to investigate, and the roadway in the area remained closed for several hours while traffic investigators reconstructed the crash.
Preliminary findings indicate that the driver of the Infiniti was traveling northbound in the middle through lane of Route 59 when the pedestrian attempted to cross eastbound and entered the vehicle’s path. The driver attempted to stop, but was unable to avoid the collision.
The pedestrian was identified as Derrick Davis, of the 2500 block of Arcadia Circle in Naperville. The Kane County Coroner’s Office has taken custody of the deceased and will conduct an autopsy to determine the exact cause and manner of death.
“Our hearts go out to Mr. Davis’s family and friends as they navigate this heartbreaking loss. Incidents like this remind us all of the unpredictability of our roadways and the need for care and caution as we travel through our community.”
