Firefighters and paramedics from Pingree Grove & Countryside Fire Protection District and Kane County Sheriff’s deputies initially responded about 3:05 a.m. Monday, February 24, 2025 to a report of a structure fire in a barn at 42 W827 Plank Road in the Village of Hampshire, near Pingree Grove. Pingree Grove Unit 1201 took Command, and a MABAS Box Alarm was requested for mutual aid assistance.
Engine 1214 was the Attack Engine, Hampshire Tower 1431 was set up.
Arriving Chiefs were assigned as follows:
1301 Operations (East),

Two water drafting areas were set up at East and West driveways, that were both off of Plank Road. The burning buildings were over 200 feet from Plank Road in a southeast area of the Village of Hampshire. Due to the large amounts of water needed in an area with no fire hydrants, the fire incident was elevated to a MABAS Division 2 Box Alarm to the 5th Alarm for Tenders (water tankers).
A MABAS Division 2 Box Alarm (#2-42) was activated at about 3:24 a.m.
A MABAS Division 2 Box Alarm (#2-42) was elevated to a 3rd Alarm for “tenders only” at about 3:48 a.m.
A MABAS Division 2 Box Alarm (#2-42) was elevated to a 5th Alarm for “tenders only” at about 4:10 a.m.
Mutual Aid Units were released by 9:00 a.m. Monday, and Pingree Grove units returned to quarters after 10:00 a.m.
Livestock animals were lost in all three buildings. Initially there was no information available regarding the number of livestock that were killed. The fire is under investigation, and the Office of the State Fire Marshal was assigned to the scene.
Plank Road was closed near the fire scene for seven hours.
