Police from Roselle, Metra, and Canadian Pacific; and firefighters and paramedics from Roselle responded about 1:20 p.m. Tuesday, February 11, 2025 to a report of a vehicle struck by a freight train near the Roselle Train Depot, 540 Irving Park Road in Roselle.
All passenger trains and freight trains were suspended temporarily in both directions, according to the Roselle Police Department; but the passenger car was not on the railroad tracks after impact.
The Roselle Fire Department, along with assisting agencies, extricated the male driver from the vehicle by 1:35 p.m., and transported the victim to Level 1 Trauma Center Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove. The victim was listed in “stable condition” according to the Roselle Police Department. Extra fire/rescue companies on another fire call in Roselle that responded from Bloomingdale, Carol Stream, Elk Grove and Schaumburg were returned by Roselle command by about 1:35 p.m.
The train was also inspected for any hazards by firefighters.
The railroad crossings at Roselle Road, Prospect Street, and Park Street were temporarily blocked by the stopped train. Irving Park Road is an underpass under the railroad tracks west of the train depot.
The freight train was moving again by about 2:05 p.m., and other trains were permitted to move in both directions.
The Canadian Pacific Police Department (CPKC) is the lead investigating agency regarding the crash.
The official X account for Metra Milwaukee District-West line had no alerts regarding the Canadian Pacific freight train crash with the car.
