While Schaumburg police detectives were conducting surveillance in the area of Algonquin Road and Meacham Road on Saturday, February 15, 2025 at 1203 a.m., they recognized a male that matched the description of a suspect connected to multiple armed robberies in the area. The detectives observed a suspicious male, later identified as Benjamin Lazzarotto, near a convenience store. When officers approached Lazzarotto, he attempted to flee, and was apprehended a short distance away. While fleeing, Lazzarotto allegedly tossed a 9mm pistol into a yard. Officers recovered the pistol and placed Lazzarotto under arrest.
During the investigation, detectives uncovered evidence linking Lazzarotto to an armed robbery on October 29, 2024, at the Shell Gas Station located at 2501 North Meacham Road (northeast corner of Meacham Road and Algonquin Road). Detectives conducted a thorough investigation of the case. After reviewing all the facts of the investigation, the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office approved felony charges against Benjamin Lazzarotto.
