A resident, who the Des Plaines Police Department listed as living at the Red Roof Inn in Arlington Heights at 22 West Algonquin Road, was recently arrested in Des Plaines, accused of punching a fellow employee. Julius Hope was charged with Battery by the Des Plaines Police Department — just before an Arlington Heights village trustee gave an apparent endorsement of safety at south side hotels, and gave accolades to the village manager and police chief for cleaning up Arlington Heights south side hotels.

Des Plaines Police responded about 11:58 p.m. Monday, February 10, 2025 to the block of 1300 South Wolf Road for the report of a battery that was occurring. Cook County Dispatch informed the responding Des Plaines police officers that someone was being attacked on the north side of the building. Upon arrival of the police officers, security approached the officers and said that there was a fight between two employees, and claimed the subject, Julius Hope, as the at fault party.

Prior to the officers arriving on scene, Hope had left the area and was last seen eastbound on Algonquin Road in a Chevrolet Trax. While speaking with the victim, the officers learned that Hope had approached him and punched him in the face. Additional officers began checking the area and noted a vehicle matching Hope’s vehicle, a Chevrolet Trax, was westbound on Oakton Street approaching Mount Prospect Road. The officer activated his overhead emergency lights and curbed the vehicle in the block of 0-99 East Oakton Street before speaking with the driver, later identified as Julius Hope.

Julius Hope made an initial statement that the victim had been the primary aggressor, and had struck him first. Witness statements, along with physical evidence, indicated that Hope had struck the victim first. Hope was taken into custody and transported to the Des Plaines Police station. Julius Hope, age 41, residing at 22 West Algonquin Road in Arlington Heights, was subsequently arrested for one misdemeanor count of Battery, according to the Des Plaines Police Department.

Julius Hope was cited and released with his court information.

Julius Hope was arrested while his listed address was at the Red Roof Inn Chicago – O’Hare Airport/Arlington Heights, 22 West Algonquin Road — a few weeks after Trustee Trustee James C. Bertucci gave glowing accolades to Arlington Heights Village Manager Randy Recklaus and Police Chief Nicholas Pecora for “cleaning up” hotels on the south side of Arlington Heights.

“We’ve taken a lot of steps toward those hotels (in Arlington Heights) … we’re taking a lot of steps in cleaning them up, and they have been cleaned up. (I’m) very proud of Randy (Village Manager Recklaus) and what he’s done … and also the police chief.”

— Trustee James C. Bertucci (Statement supporting his YES vote for Grace Terrace affordable housing at Village Board Meeting January 21, 2025)

According to an article published by CWBChicago on March 12, 2019, a suspect with the name of Julius Hope, then age 35, was arrested March 6, 2019 after jumping a turnstile at the Jackson Red Line station, and after he was identified as a suspect wanted for the attack of a 25 year-old pregnant woman on a Red Line train at the Addison Red Line station, 940 West Addison Street in Chicago on February 13, 2019.

Julius Hope was charged with felony aggravated battery of a pregnant woman. There was no record of Julius Hope in the Illinois Department of Corrections data retrieved Thursday, February 20, 2025.
