Mundelein police officers responded about 2:12 a.m. Wednesday, January 29, 2025 to a report via a 911 call that a person, who was bleeding and possibly shot in a parking lot in the block of 1100 West Maple Avenue in Mundelein.
As police officers arrived on the scene, they discovered a subject in a black pickup truck leaving the shopping center’s parking lot. Officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the truck; however, the driver refused to stop. The driver that fled in the pickup truck drove at low speeds, continuously stopping and then driving off, as officers attempted to make contact with the driver. While this low-speed pursuit was occurring, officers noticed the driver was covered in blood.
Police officers continued the low-speed pursuit to the intersection of Illinois Route 60/83 and Diamond Lake Road where the truck collided with a Lake County Sheriff’s Department squad car, while the sheriff’s deputy was attempting to assist Mundelein officers. After crashing into the Lake County Sheriff’s squad, the subject exited the truck, ran from officers, and was taken into custody after a short foot pursuit.
The subject was transported to Condell Medical Center for unspecified injuries. Two Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies and one Mundelein officer were also transported to the hospital and treated for minor injuries.
The Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team (MCAT) responded to investigate the crash with the LCSD squad. Officers from the Mundelein PD are handling the rest of the investigation.
Preliminary findings have determined the subject’s injuries were self-inflicted, and the initial reports of a shooting were inaccurate.
The matter remains under investigation by the Mundelein Police Department. There is no threat or danger to the public resulting from this incident, according to the Mundelein Police Department.
