Amended charges and a new arrest warrant were filed in Champaign County on January 23, 2025, for an undocumented/false-documented suspect that possessed falsified Mexican paperwork when he was arrested connected to a fatal traffic crash that occurred January 19, 2025 at 1:55 a.m. at the intersection of University Avenue and Coler Avenue in Urbana, Illinois. The crash killed a 21 year-old Deerfield woman and a 20 year-old Glenview woman, who were visiting friends in the Champaign-Urbana area.

The crash occurred about 200 feet from the Level 1 Trauma Center Carle Foundation Hospital Emergency Room entrance.

Authorities learned that Juan JaHaziel Saenz-Suarez was an alias name used by the suspect with actual name Julio Cucul Bol. Initially, he had possessed falsified Mexican paperwork after he fled on foot from the crash scene. The suspect has now been identified as Julio Cucul Bol, a 29-year-old citizen of Guatemala. Investigators learned the identity of the suspect through Julio’s admission.

Champaign County State’s attorney Julia Rietz has been notified of the true identity of Julio Cucul Bol (alias Juan Jahaziel Saenz-Suarez) which is the reason for the new arrest warrant and amended charges, which are as follows:

Urbana police, firefighters and paramedics were called to the University Avenue and Coler Avenue intersection for a severe traffic crash.

The crash occurred about 200 feet from the Level 1 Trauma Center Carle Foundation Hospital Emergency Room entrance; and less than one mile east of the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign campus.

The Urbana Fire Department was dispatched and subsequently extricated the passengers and provide life-saving measures. There were five occupants in the Civic and all were transported to the hospital for their injuries. Two were released with minor injuries, while two remained hospitalized. A 20-year-old woman who was a passenger in the Civic was later pronounced deceased at the hospital. One day later, a 21 year-old female was pronounced deceased. Both of their identities were initially withheld pending notification of family by the Champaign County Coroner’s office.

Preliminary investigations indicated a Honda Civic was eastbound on University Avenue and had stopped at Coler Avenue for a red traffic signal. Moments later, the driver of a red Mitsubishi Outlander SUV was traveling in the same direction behind the Honda Civic at a high rate of speed. The driver of the Mitsubishi Outlander SUV struck the Honda Civic causing severe damage to both vehicles and causing life-threatening injuries.

The Mitsubishi Outlander SUV driver, currently suspected to be Julio Cucul Bol (alias Juan Jahaziel Saenz-Suarez), fled on foot southbound on Coler Avenue and was not immediately located by police officers. Urbana Police Department detectives and an accident reconstruction investigator examined the scene and conducted the initial investigation.
