The Batavia Police Department was dispatched about 2:10 a.m. Tuesday, January 28, 2025 to an activated business alarm at Batavia Liquor, 1804 Mill Street in Batavia. While en route, police officers were advised that the alarm was due to an active break-in and burglary of the business. Upon arrival, an officer observed what appeared to be the suspect vehicle exiting the parking lot. The suspect vehicle fled from Batavia officers and was last seen southbound in the area of south Randall Road and Orchard Road, which is about 2.8 miles south of the commercial burglary scene.
According to the Batavia Police Department, police officers discontinued pursuit of the vehicle due to excessive speeds, and public safety considerations.
The police department did not provide a description of the vehicle.
Police officers discovered that the front door had been smashed, and that numerous items/products had been stolen from the business.
The Batavia Police Department is actively following leads and this continues to be an ongoing investigation. There is no active safety threat to the public regarding this incident, according to the Batavia Police Department.
The liquor store business location is the north end unit located in a strip mall that borders a residential neighborhood of townhomes near the intersection of Randall Road and Mill Street, which becomes a residential street east of the strip mall.
