ATM Robbers Get Cash During Maintenance at Lake in the Hills Bank of America Set to Permanently Close in Jan. 2025

Lake in the Hills police responded about 6:07 p.m. Tuesday, December 17, 2024 to a report of a drive-thru ATM robbery at the Bank of America, 240 North Randall Road, Lake in the Hills, Illinois. The robbery occurred while an ATM service technician was working on the ATM. The technician was able to find a secure position inside the service vehicle and escape the robbery, and then call 9-1-1. Initially, no injuries were reported.

The FBI-Chicago Field Office and Lake in the Hills Police Department released surveillance images and the following details:

Crime Method: ATM robbery

Weapon: None displayed or implied

Suspect Description: Multiple suspects

Clothing: Dark-colored clothing, ski masks (possibly black), and gloves

Injuries: No physical injuries currently reported

Current Status: Suspects fled by car; Currently at large

Vehicle: Dark colored (possibly bluish green or “Independence Blue”/added by CARDINAL NEWS), newer model, four-door sedan with tinted windows

The amount of money taken was not initially disclosed.

The FBI urges the public to report tips (even anonymously) at 312-421-6700 and tips.fbi.gov.

Earlier in 2024, Bank of America announced that the Lake in the Hills branch at 240 North Randall Road would close permanently on January 28, 2025. Bank of America has closed around 400 financial centers from 2022 to 2024; however, there are plans to open more than 165 news financial center by the end of 2026. The bank reports that with more than 95% of client interactions taking place on Bank of America’s digital platform, Bank of America has adapted its financial centers to focus on meeting spaces where clients can have in-depth conversations about their finances.
