Police, firefighters and paramedics from Palatine responded at 3:51 a.m. Monday, November 18, 2024 to a report of a house fire in the block of 0-99 East Washington Street in Palatine. The first Palatine Fire Department unit arrived four minutes after the initial alarm, and reported smoke coming from the roof of the house. The alarm was upgraded to a structure fire response (Working Fire, Code 4). Crews quickly realized the fire originated in the basement of the house. The initial fire crews deployed a hose line via the house’s exterior, directing water through a basement window. A second hose line was deployed to the interior for fire extinguishment. Other crews used thermal imaging cameras (TIC) to check for victims. All residents were safely located outside the house. The fire was declared under control at 4:49 a.m.
No firefighters were injured in the fire. One civilian wished to seek medical care on their own. Damage estimates were not available at the time of the press release from Palatine Fire Department.
Palatine Fire Department investigators have determined that the fire was accidental due to an electrical component’s failure.
The fire was fought by 22 firefighters staffing four engines, one ladder truck, one rescue squad, and three ambulances that responded to the scene along with four command officers. During the incident, a Long Grove Fire Protection District ambulance crew stood by at Palatine Fire Station 82 to provide coverage for any additional calls.
Palatine Police officers assisted at the scene with traffic and crowd control.
The Palatine Fire Department reminds everyone to have working smoke detectors in their homes, whether it is a single-family dwelling, an apartment, or a condo. For more information on fire safety visit https://www.palatine.il.us/431/Public-Education
