Carol Stream police are investigating a fatal traffic crash involving a vehicle and a pedestrian that occurred Wednesday, November 26, 2024 near the intersection of Gary Avenue and Stark Drive in Carol Stream.
Police, firefighters, and paramedics responded about 6:45 p.m., Tuesday and upon arrival discovered an unresponsive 66-year-old woman.
The woman was transported to an undisclosed hospital where she was pronounced dead. No other people were injured, according to the Carol Stream Police Department.
The DuPage County Metropolitan Emergency Response and Investigations Team’s (MERIT) Crash Reconstruction Team is assisting with the on-scene and post scene investigation.
The investigation is active following an extended on-scene investigation by the Carol Stream Police Department and MERIT.
The woman’s identity was initially withheld pending notification of family members.
There was no recent precipitation at the time of the crash. The air temperature at Chicago/West Chicago DuPage Airport at 6:52 p.m. was 34°F and the wind was from the Southwest 7 MPH. The crash occurred in darkness after sunset was 4:24 p.m.
Gary Avenue is a four-lane highway with a bike path along the west side of the street.
Northbound Gary Avenue has a dedicated left turn lane and a dedicated right turn lane to Stark Drive. Southbound Gary Avenue has a dedicated left turn lane to eastbound Stark Drive.
