The Arlington Heights Police Department is investigating a shooting that occurred at the Red Roof Inn, located at 22 West Algonquin Road after Arlington Heights police officers began lifesaving efforts — including CPR and AED deployment — for a gunshot victim; and after Arlington Heights Fire Department paramedics treated the victim with Advanced Life Support.
Friday, November 1, 2024 around 11:30 p.m., Arlington Heights Police and Fire Department personnel responded to the Red Roof Inn office after a guest services employee called 911 to report an individual entered the motel lobby bleeding profusely from a gunshot wound.
First responders found the victim unresponsive and began lifesaving efforts. Police officers deployed an AED and started CPR. Once it was determined all suspects had fled and the scene was secure, Arlington Heights Fire Department paramedics moved up and took over patient treatment. Paramedics from Ambulance 3 with extra personnel from Engine 3 and Squad 1 continued Advanced Life Support during transport to a Level I Trauma Center Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge.
The victim was last reported to be in stable condition, according to the Arlington Heights Police Department.
Initial Investigation Summary
Preliminary information indicates several individuals knocked on the door of a second floor room on the north side of the motel building and confronted two sleeping occupants. A male occupant exited the room and was shot by one of the aggressors. The wounded male ran about 80 yards to the motel office, and asked the clerk to call 911. Four suspects fled the area in a white sedan. The other occupant of the motel room also fled and likewise sought refuge in the office.
The Arlington Heights Police Department shift commander activated an Illinois Law Enforcement Alarm System (ILEAS) mutual aid request that sent nine police officers from neighboring jurisdictions to assist with clearing and securing a large crime scene. Officers from Buffalo Grove, Elk Grove Village, Inverness and Palatine police departments responded to a request for assistance.
Forensic technicians documented and collected items of evidentiary value to include multiple spent shell casings that were recovered adjacent to the victim’s motel room.
Detectives assigned to the case are interviewing witnesses. The team is also reviewing and evaluating both digital and physical evidence. Detectives will initiate filing of legal process to further their investigation.
Police officers with weapons drawn and a body shield were observed searching two motel rooms below the shooting scene.
The scene is now secure and no known threat exists in the surrounding area, according to the Arlington Heights Police Department.
The information is based on a preliminary review of established facts, and the investigation remains active, according to the Arlington Heights Police Department.
No additional information is anticipated from the Arlington Heights Police Department unless there is a turn of events.
