Kassandra Fajardo-Rodriguez, age 30, of Waukegan died after being struck by multiple vehicles Tuesday night on Grand Avenue near Yeoman Street and Yeoman Park northwest of downtown Waukegan.
The Waukegan Police Department and Waukegan Fire Department responded about 10:23 p.m. Tuesday, October 22, 2024 to a report of a vehicle crash with a pedestrian in the block of 1500 Grand Avenue in Waukegan at Grand Avenue and New York Street. Officers arrived and found that a pedestrian had been struck by multiple vehicles in the roadway. The police officers attempted to help the victim with CPR before Waukegan Fire Department paramedics arrived. The victim, a 30-year-old female, was transported to Vista Medical Center East with extra personnel assisting with Advanced Life Support. Despite care and treatment, she was pronounced dead in the emergency room.
The Lake County Coroner’s Office was notified.
The deceased was identified as 30-year-old Kassandra Fajardo-Rodriguez of Waukegan. On Wednesday, October 23, 2024, an autopsy was conducted at the Lake County Coroner’s Office that indicated Ms. Fajardo-Rodriguez died from Blunt Force Injuries as a result of the crash.
The crash investigation continues by the Waukegan Police Department Major Crash Unit. The Speed Limit is 30 MPH on Grand Avenue, but is not posted near the scene near Yeoman Park. The Speed Limit is post a few blocks from either side of the scene. A curve east of the scene is posted with a 15 MPH warning sign.
