Shooting near Dundee Road and Baldwin Road Palatine; victim gets help at Walmart in Palatine. YouTube Tips ⓘ
Police, firefighters, and paramedics responded about 8:42 p.m. Friday, October 25, 2024 to a report of shots fired and a gunshot victim located near Walmart, 1555 North Rand Road in Palatine, but the shooting apparently occurred a few hundred feet north of the Walmart near Dundee Road and Baldwin Road. Upon arrival, police officers located a 29-year-old male victim with a single gunshot wound to the back of his neck, and determined the scene was secure so that Palatine Fire Department paramedics could begin to treat the victim. Palatine Fire Department paramedics transported the victim to an area hospital, where he was treated for non-life threatening injuries, according to the Palatine Police Department.
Preliminary investigations reveal that the victim and a female passenger in a vehicle traveling through a parking lot in the block of 1200 East Dundee Road when the victim was shot by an unknown offender. The victim and his passenger then traveled to a parking lot area near the front entrance to Walmart nearby, and called 9-1-1.
Preliminary evidence suggests that this incident may be gang-related, according to the Palatine Police Department. There may have been other subjects accompanying the shooter when the shooting occurred. The shooting location was possibly just north of the Mobil gas station at the northwest corner of Dundee Road and Baldwin Road.
Police appeared to be searching and collecting evidence in a grass area between the Mobil gas station and the strip mall parking lot to the north of the Mobil station. A K-9 unit assisted with the search.
A white Chevrolet pickup truck, apparently associated with the shooting victim was towed from a parking space near the front entrance to Walmart.
The on-scene investigation at the Mobil station appeared to close down at about 10:30 p.m. The white pickup truck was towed away from the Walmart parking lot at about 10:00 p.m.
The Palatine Police Department is continuing the investigation of this shooting incident, and updates will be provided as information becomes available, according to the Palatine Police Department.
