Police, firefighters and paramedics responded about 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, September 25, 2024 to a report of a woman down on a driveway in the block of 600 Stonehaven Avenue, north of Chelmsford Lane in the Elk Grove Estates neighborhood of Elk Grove Village.

Police, firefighters and paramedics on arrival discovered a woman down on the driveway and sidewalk in front of her home. The woman’s blue Ford Edge SUV was stopped on an angle in the street near the curb with the engine still running. A neighbor frantically had called 9-1-1.

Two witnesses saw the woman down on the driveway. One witness described her upper body in the direction pointed closer to the street, and her lower body in the direction pointed closer to the sidewalk. The witness heard a scream, and then saw the woman down, and the vehicle rolling to a stop near the curb. The driveway is separated by a common parkway sidewalk, with a shorter apron driveway near the street and curb, and the longer part of the driveway near the house.

The woman was found by paramedics with life-threatening injuries, and was treated with Advanced Life Support (ALS) and transported to Level 1 Trauma Center Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, where was pronounced dead at about 10:13 a.m.

The woman’s identity was released by the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office as Rosaria Bacigalupo, age 83, of Elk Grove Village. The initial investigation indicates that she was struck and run over by her own vehicle — a small blue SUV. The accident investigation is continuing. The Elk Grove Village Police Department is seeking witnesses or video surveillance from doorbell cameras or other security cameras that might have captured the incident.

Stonehaven Avenue was closed between Chelmsford Lane and Cosman for about two hours as police conducted their investigation. The blue Ford Edge was moved off the street onto the driveway after the on-scene investigation was complete.

“The Elk Grove Village Police Department extends its heartfelt condolences to the family of the victim,” police said in a written statement.
