According to South Barrington Police Chief Michael Garrison, a suspect is in custody, accused in two home invasions that began after midnight Monday, September 9, 2024.
Around 12:45 a.m., residents in the South Barrington Lakes subdivision found a male intruder in their home. After confronting him, he escaped by climbing out a window. South Barrington police officers began a search, and during the search heard glass breaking at a nearby home at about 2:28 a.m. The suspect barricaded himself inside, claiming to have a gun. After a 2.5-hour standoff, NIPAS officers safely took him into custody.
The home invasion case is under investigation, and felony charges are expected.
Most police activity was on Lexington Road, which connects Revere Drive on the east to Liberty Drive on the west, located in south-central South Barrington Lakes.
South Barrington Lakes is a large neighborhood (a subdivision of South Barrington) with single-family homes on 2+ acre properties, located between Penny Road to the north and Mudhank Road to the south, just east of Bartlett Road, and just west of Lake of the Coves (west of Watergate Drive).
