According to a statement from South Barrington Police Chief Michael Garrison on Monday, September 9, 2024 (before the suspect’s identity was released), the home invasion suspect was in custody, accused in two home invasions that began after midnight Monday, September 9, 2024.

Around 12:45 a.m. Monday, September 9, 2024, residents in the South Barrington Lakes subdivision found a male intruder in their home.

When the homeowners approached him, Miller allegedly ran through the house and tried to escape through a window. The residents grabbed him by the shirt, but he was able to get away through the window.

Soon after their arrival on the scene, police officers began a search for the suspect, and later at about 2:28 a.m. heard what sounded like glass breaking in a nearby home. They also noticed the owners of the second involved house running from their home. After the residents told police officers that the offender was upstairs, police tried to enter the second involved home, but the suspect told police officers he had a gun.

The suspect barricaded himself inside, and NIPAS (SWAT and Rescue) was activated for a barricaded subject incident. After a 2.5-hour standoff, NIPAS officers safely took Miller into custody.

Most police activity was on Lexington Road, which connects Revere Drive on the east to Liberty Drive on the west, located in south-central South Barrington Lakes.

South Barrington Lakes is a large neighborhood (a subdivision of South Barrington) with single-family homes on 2+ acre properties, located between Penny Road to the north and Mudhank Road to the south, just east of Bartlett Road, and just west of Lake of the Coves (west of Watergate Drive).
