September 2004’s Full Moon is the Harvest Moon, which acquired the name because the Moon rises after sunset and gives some extra working time for harvesting by the strong sunlight reflected off the Moon. In 2024, the September Harvest Moon is also a supermoon — defined because the Moon orbit is at or near the closest distance to Earth. Therefore, the supermoon appears larger and more radiant than usual. The moonlight cast quite the shadows Tuesday night at about 11:20 p.m. CDT when the Moon was about 222,200 miles away from Earth.
