Mount Prospect Police Department announced Saturday, September 7, 2024 at about 6:00 p.m. that the police department was investigating a shooting of two people on the far south side of Mount Prospect that occurred Friday night. The shooting scene was at an apartment complex on Chariot Court, just west of Busse Road and just north of Interstate 90.
Mount Prospect police officers responded about 9:37 p.m. Friday, September 6, 2024 to a report of shots fired in the block of 1700 Chariot Court at the Pharoahs apartment complex. Upon arrival, police officers discovered two male victims who had been shot. Police officers immediately provided aid to the victims utilizing tourniquets until Mount Prospect Fire Department paramedics arrived immediately after the initial police dispatch and continued medical care for the shooting victims.
Both victims were transported to Level 1 Trauma Center Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge. Their injuries are not expected to be life threatening, according to the Mount Prospect Police Department.
The initial investigation revealed that while the two male victims were in the parking lot of an apartment building in the 1700 block of Chariot Court, multiple offenders occupied a white colored SUV, passed the victim, and began shooting at the victims. The driver of the offenders’ vehicle then fled the area. Crime Scene Technicians located multiple shell casings and damage to multiple vehicles and apartment buildings consistent with damage caused by gunshots.
No other injuries were reported.
Mount Prospect police officers were able to identify the possible offender’s vehicle utilizing the Flock Safety license plate recognition (LPR) cameras in the area. The vehicle’s information was shared with area police agencies. Mount Prospect Police Detectives learned that another law enforcement agency had located the vehicle and was able to take the three potential offenders in the vehicle into custody after a vehicle pursuit. Two firearms were located in the white SUV after the vehicle was stopped. The three suspects are facing possible charges related to the vehicle pursuit in the other jurisdiction. Mount Prospect police detectives continue to work with the law enforcement agency that took the suspects into custody as they continue to investigate the shooting.
According to the Mount Prospect Police Department, the incident is believed to be gang related and was not a random act of violence.
One witness reported hearing about eight gunshots, while two other witnesses reported hearing about 20 shots, beginning with the sound of rapid automatic gunfire, followed up by a slower rate of gunshots.
There were at least nine evidence markers, apparently for shell casings, and there were possibly additional evidence markers in the background in a dark area of the parking lot.
One male was taken into custody in handcuffs at the scene by police officers, but initially it was unknown if the detention of the male was related to the shooting or something else.
Initially, no charges were filed related to the shooting, however Mount Prospect police detectives continue to actively investigate this incident, which includes the analysis of forensic evidence.
