Police officers first on scene reported that one vehicle was flipped over and on fire. Deerfield’s Battalion Chief 20 on arrival reported a vehicle flipped over on its roof with heavy damage, partially into the building.
The report indicated there was no active fire on arrival of firefighters. Next, one vehicle occupant was discovered by firefighters and paramedics. Incident command reported extricating a possible deceased occupant from the vehicle, and that the building structure appeared stable.
Fire crews cleared the scene about 3:49 a.m., but returned about 6:16 a.m. to work to clean up the scene with the towing and recovery service.
The scene clean-up followed a four-hour on-scene investigation by the Deerfield Police Department and the Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team.
