A driver made a left turn in front of another driver, which resulted in a crash that killed the other driver Tuesday, August 27, 2024. The driver’s identity was released Wednesday as Jacqueline Bridges, age 77, of Mount Prospect. Mount Prospect Police Department is urging anyone who may have witness the crash to call the Major Crash Investigation Team at 847-818-5301.




Mount Prospect Police Department announced on Wednesday, August 28, 2024, that on Tuesday, August 27, 2024, at approximately 12:20 PM, the Mount Prospect Police Department responded to the intersection of Rand Road (US-12) and Euclid Avenue for a report of a traffic crash involving two vehicles. Upon arrival, with paramedics and firefighters from Arlington Heights and Prospect Heights Fire Departments, police discovered a crash involving a gray Mazda SUV and a white Kia SUV located in the intersection. While paramedics were attending to the occupants of the vehicles, a female elderly driver of the Kia went into cardiac arrest and Advanced Life Saving measures were initiated. The driver, later identified as Jacqueline Bridges, age 77, of Mount Prospect, was transported to Northwest Community Hospital, where she was later pronounced deceased. The driver of the Mazda, a 29-year-old woman from Des Plaines, and the passenger in her vehicle reported no injuries as a result of the crash.




According to the Mount Prospect Police Department, the preliminary investigation revealed Bridges’ Kia was traveling northwest bound on Rand Road (US-12 WEST) when it struck a Mazda SUV while the Mazda driver was turning left onto eastbound Euclid from southeast bound Rand Road (US-12 EAST).

The Speed Limit on US-12 EAST is 45 MPH northwest of the intersection with Euclid Avenue. The Speed Limit on US-12 WEST is 40 MPH southeast of the intersection.

The Speed Limit on Euclid Avenue is 40 MPH east of the intersection with Rand Road, and Speed Limit is 35 MPH west of the intersection with Rand Road.

Following an on-scene investigation, the traffic crash is currently being investigated by the Mount Prospect Police Department Major Crash Investigation Team, along with the assistance from the Major Case Assistance Team’s Serious Traffic Accident Reconstruction (STAR) Team. Portions of Rand Road (US-12) and Euclid Avenue were closed and reopened at approximately 6:30 PM. The investigation into the cause of the crash is still ongoing and more information will be provided when it is available. The Mount Prospect Police Department requests anyone who may have witnessed the crash or has any additional information to contact the department’s Major Crash Investigation Team at 847-818-5301.

INITIAL REPORT FROM CARDINAL NEWS THE DAY OF THE CRASH

A Mount Prospect woman, age 77, was pronounced deceased at a hospital after a crash in the intersection at Rand Road (US-12) and Euclid Avenue just after noon Tuesday.

Police officers from Arlington Heights and Mount Prospect, and firefighters and paramedics from Arlington Heights and Prospect Heights responded about 12:20 p.m. Tuesday, August 27, 2024 to a report of a crash with injuries at Rand Road and Euclid Avenue in the intersection at the border of Arlington Heights and Mount Prospect.

A caller to 9-1-1 reported that a woman was lying on the ground after the crash.




Rescuers on arrival discovered two vehicles in the middle of the intersection with moderate to severe damage.

A second ambulance was requested about 12:25 p.m.

Arlington Heights Engine 2’s crew was assigned at 12:45 p.m. for an EMS assist for a patient at the scene with traumatic cardiac arrest.

Prospect Heights Fire Protection District paramedics transported a 77 year-old woman to Endeavor Health Northwest Community Hospital where she was pronounced dead about 1:45 p.m.

Mount Prospect Police Department investigators and Major Case Assistance Team – Serious Traffic Accident Reconstruction (MCAT-STAR) investigators conducted an extended crash investigation at the scene Tuesday afternoon and evening until about 6:15 p.m. The northwest suburban Major Case Assistance Team — Serious Traffic Accident Reconstruction unit (MCAT-STAR) along with Mount Prospect police investigators are continuing with the investigation.
