Police, firefighters and paramedics from Forest Park responded about 5:24 a.m. Monday, Labor Day, September 2, 2024 to a report of three people shot that appeared to be dead on a CTA Blue Line westbound train at the Forest Park CTA blue line station, 711 Des Plaines Avenue in Forest Park. When police arrived they discovered four shooting victims.

Forest Park police secured the scene, and discovered that three of the shooting victims were dead at the scene. One shooting victim was transported by Forest Park paramedics to a nearby hospital where the individual was pronounced dead. All victims were passengers on the CTA Blue Line train, and the shooting occurred while the train was in motion arriving at the Forest Park train station, according to Deputy Chief of Police Christopher Chin. Initially, police are not certain that the shooting occurred in Forest Park jurisdiction. The shooting may have occurred in two train cars, but initially this is not confirmed by the investigation.

Forest Park Mayor Rory E. Hoskins and Deputy Chief of Police Christopher Chin provided a press conference for Chicago media.

The offender fled the scene; however, CTA security personnel and Forest Park police officers located a suspect after reviewing and monitoring surveillance video images. A suspect was located on a CTA Pink Line train and was taken into custody Monday morning — possibly by about 8:30 a.m. A weapon was also recovered.

The suspect was initially held at the Forest Park Police Department. No other suspects are believed to be involved in the shooting crime.

Blue Line service was temporary suspended between Forest Park and Austin with CTA buses working to replace the temporary suspended service.

The Forest Park Police Department along with the West Suburban Major Crimes Task Force are conducting the investigation.

Forest Park Police Department urges anyone with information regarding the shooting to contact the Forest Park Police Department Criminal Investigations Division at 708–3 66–2425 or via email at [email protected]
