Police, firefighters, and paramedics from Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Fire Protection District responded about 12:27 a.m. Wednesday, September 11, 2020 Ford report of a vehicle crashed into the Walmart Supercenter, 1410 South Randall Road in Algonquin.
Police, firefighters and paramedics discovered a red sedan almost completely through a hole in the wall created by the crash near the southwest corner of the building. An Illinois State Police trooper was also on the scene.
Police first on the scene reported there was a lot of debris from the crash, and that the driver was trapped under the debris. Initially, the patient was conscious and breathing. The driver was the only occupant in the vehicle. The vehicle was possibly a Pontiac G6.
A LifeNet medical helicopter was assigned to the scene at a landing zone in the Walmart parking lot. Flight was put on standby about 12:36 a.m., and was requested to respond to the scene at 12:42 a.m.
The driver was transported by LifeNet helicopter to Level 1 Trauma Center Advocate Condell Medical Center.
There were employees inside the Walmart, and a fire alarm activated, but the store was closed to customers (after store hours).
Algonquin Police Department is investigating the crash, and is asking that anyone who may have witnessed the crash call the Algonquin Police Department at 847-658-4531.
