Victim Identity Released as Lake County Major Crime Task Force Investigates Shooting Homicide in Zion

Zion Police Officers and firefighters and paramedics from Zion responded about 2:40 a.m. Friday, August 9, 2024 to a report of shots fire at a residence in the 2900 block of Elizabeth Avenue, Zion. Zion Police Officers arrived and located a gunshot victim inside a home. Lifesaving efforts were performed by Zion Police Officers and Zion Fire Department paramedics. The man was transported to an area hospital, where he subsequently succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased.

The deceased was identified as 39-year-old Eric Irvin, of Zion. On Friday, August 9, 2024, an autopsy was conducted at the Lake County Coroner’s Office. Autopsy results indicate that Mr. Irvin died from multiple gunshot wounds.

The preliminary criminal investigation indicates the home was likely the intended target of the shooting. The victim was struck by the rounds fired from the offender, who shot from outside the home.

The Lake County Coroner’s Office was notified and responded to the hospital.

Major Crime Task Force Investigators and Zion Police Detectives continue to actively investigate the homicide.
