Two Charged with Agg Battery, Mob Action; Accused of Beating Man at Arlington Alfresco on Campbell St

Police from Arlington Heights responded just before 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 23, 2024 to report of a battery victim located near Vail Avenue and Davis Street in Arlington Heights. Police discovered the victim was injured, and requested paramedics respond to the scene.




Police learned that earlier in the evening two male/black suspects violently beat and kicked the victim in the Arlington Alfresco area on Campbell Street near Mago Grill, 115 West Campbell Street in downtown Arlington Heights. The male adult victim was kicked and punched multiple times in his head and body, and fled the scene. The offenders also fled the scene.

Initially, the injuries suffered by the victim were not believed to be serious or life-threatening.




As a result of an investigation, Arlington Heights police officers were able to identify and arrest both of the suspects within the following two weeks.

Samuel Thakurdas, age 25, of the block of 2300 Lisa Court in Palatine was arrested Wednesday, July 31, 2024 at 5:45 p.m.

Damion Battaglia, age 25, of the block of 1000 Harrison Lane in Hoffman Estates was arrested on August 5, 2024 at 8:55 p.m.

Both suspects were charged with Aggravated Battery (based on location, even though the injury was reported to be minor and there was no dangerous weapon used).

Both suspects were also charged with Mob Action using force and involving two persons.

Damion Battaglia, who had an in-state warrant for his arrest for a misdemeanor gun-related charge, was arrested charged with violation of bail bond.

Both suspects were were released in the pre-trial hearing.

The next scheduled court date for Samuel Thakurdas is September 4, 2024 at 9:30 a.m. in Rolling Meadows Circuit Court in Courtroom 207.

The next scheduled court date for Damion Battaglia is September 30, 2024 at 9:00 a.m. in Rolling Meadows Circuit Court in Courtroom 108. Battaglia was also ordered not to possess a firearm or other dangerous weapon, and to surrender any firearms to the Palatine Police Department.

CRIMINAL HISTORY
According to court records Damion Battaglia committed reckless conduct when he unlawfully pulled the trigger of his firearm while placing down the weapon, endangering the safety of others in the residence and the neighborhood in the block of 200 West Fairfield Court in Palatine in January 2024.

Samuel Thakurdas has a criminal history of theft and violation of bail bond. After sighting Thakurdas, police officers from Arlington Heights responded about 9:21 p.m. January 13, 2023 near Noodles and Company, 66 South Arlington Heights Road to arrest him after he skipped court dates in January 2023, following two thefts in December 2022.

Samuel B. Thakurdas was also accused of retail theft at Jewel-Osco at 122 North Vail Avenue in Arlington Heights. Thakurdas allegedly took merchandise valued at under $300 without paying just before 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, November 26, 2022.
