Identity Released for Grayslake Woman Killed in Crash Involving a Passenger Car, Semi-Truck, Traffic Standard in Gurnee

Police, firefighters and paramedics from Gurnee responded about 11:50 a.m. Tuesday, August 13, 2024 to a report of a serious crash with injuries at the intersection of Route 41 and Delany Road involving a semi-truck and a Honda sedan. The crash resulted in the death of a Grayslake woman.

According to the Lake County Coroner’s Office, the deceased was identified as 64-year-old Sandra Booker, of Grayslake. On Wednesday, August 14, 2024, an autopsy was conducted at the Lake County Coroner’s Office. Autopsy results indicate that Ms. Booker died from Blunt Force Injuries as a result of the crash.




Upon arrival at the crash scene, Gurnee Fire Department personnel assisted in extricating the driver, 64-year-Sandra Booker from Grayslake. She was trapped inside the her Honda sedan, but was extricated by about 12:03 p.m. She was immediately transported by Gurnee Fire Department paramedics to Level 1 Trauma Center Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville for further medical treatment. She was later pronounced deceased at the hospital.

The preliminary investigation revealed that the Honda was traveling southbound on Route 41, positioned in the left turn lane for northbound Delany Road. For reasons still under investigation, the Honda exited the turn lane and entered the southbound lanes of Route 41. The Honda was struck by a semi-truck traveling southbound, which pushed the vehicle through the intersection and into a pole/overhead traffic signal standard.

The Major Crash Assistance Team (MCAT) was called to assist with the ongoing investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash. The crash remains under investigation by the Gurnee Police Department.
